Religion was a big part of Inca life. The Incas believed that the gods influenced their daily lives. But consequently, they showed their devotion to the gods through many different practices. But the Inca also believed in many gods who controlled various aspects of nature. Here are some examples;
Illapu- Weather god and rain giver.
Paca Mama- Earth Mother.
Mama Cocha- Goddess of the sea.
The Incas believed that these gods got their power from Viracocha, the creator of the world. But for the Incas, the MOST IMPORTANT god of all, was named Inti, the sun god. This god was important for these two reasons.
Reason Number One; The Incas believed that the emperor's family was descended from Inti.
Reason Number Two; Inti was also the god of agriculture, which is the basis in the Incas.
